The University of Toronto is consistently ranked among the world’s top 25 universities and is recognized as a leading research hub for all major disciplines. Since its founding in 1827, the University has grown to comprise 16 faculties and schools, more than 100 departments, and over 170 research centres and institutes.

In terms of research output and a global network of research collaborations, U of T is rivaled only by Harvard University. U of T is one of two Canadian universities on the list of the world’s most innovative institutions, and one of the top 20 universities on the planet to be working with the world’s most innovative companies. While our 14,000+ faculty members comprise only 7% of Canada’s professorial faculty, our research community secures a dominant share of prestigious honors awarded to researchers in Canada e.g. 40% of Sloan Research Fellows and 46% of Guggenheim Fellows are from U of T.  This longstanding tradition of excellence, spanning over a century, has resulted in transformational discoveries – insulin, blood stem cells, deep learning, etc. – that have changed life for the better.

Our extensive offering of graduate programs leverages this research and innovation excellence in all fields for the benefit of our students. Prospective students can choose from over 280 graduate degree programs delivered at our three campuses – St. George Campus in the heart of downtown Toronto, U of T Mississauga, and U of T Scarborough – as well as at the nine fully affiliated teaching hospitals. Programs stretch beyond the classroom to fieldwork and practicum placements around the world.

Our programs range from intensive eight-month long Master’s programs, in which students learn to tackle business and industry’s newest challenges, to fully-funded doctoral programs advancing the frontiers of human knowledge. More than 40 collaborative specializations encourage students to learn and research across disciplinary boundaries.

Today, over 3,000 international graduate students from over 100 countries call U of T home and pursue programs in humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, and life sciences.
